Environmental Impacts

Antarctic Heritage Register The Antarctic Heritage Register is an online database that has been developed to assist in the management of the Australian Antarctic Division's natural and cultural heritage. The register includes information on World, National and Commonwealth heritage places in the Australian Antarctic Territory and sub-Antarctic islands. The register also includes information of Antarctic and sub-Antarctic historic artefacts and art works.

Contaminated Sites A register of Contaminated Sites covering the continent, Heard and Macquarie Islands. (Custodian access required)

Search Page
Field trips A register of field trips, huts used and routes taken. Requires local AAD account for access.

Marine Debris Debris records from beaches on Heard and Macquarie Islands and floating debris spotted on voyages. (Custodian access required)

SIMR - (State of Environment) System for Indicator Management and Reporting - an on-line State of Environment system for the Antarctic.

Geographic Information

Aerial Photograph Catalogue This catalogue provides information on aerial photography in the Australian Antarctic Division archives. It includes aerial photography flown in the Australian Antarctic Territory since the late 1940s by the 1946-47 US Navy Operation Highjump, Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions, National Mapping and the Australian Antarctic Division.
The content is being updated over time.

Antarctic Gazetteer A catalogue of Antarctic Names from the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica, the Australian Antarctic Gazetteer and lists of other less formal names.

Satellite Image Catalogue This catalogue provides information on satellite imagery used by people in the Australian Antarctic Program. It includes satellite imagery from IKONOS, Landsat, Quickbird, and SPOT satellites and space photography from Russian cameras such as Kate-200. Previews are included. Additional images are being added over time.

SCAR Feature Catalogue This catalogue contains detailed descriptions of standard geographic features as agreed by the SCAR Antarctic Community. These features can be used within any GIS software to represent geographic data.
