E of Cierva Point, Hughes Bay, Danco Coast, was sighted by BeAE in January 1898; called in error Brialmont Bay (Knoldebucht) [=knoll bay] (Brialmont Cove, q.v.) (Johannessen, chart, [1919-20]).Brialmont Cove (USHO, 1943, p.115). Caleta Brialmont (Argentina. MM chart 106, 1949; Pierrou, 1970, p.215). The cove was photographed from the air by FIDASE in 1956-57 and surveyed from the ground by FIDS from "Portal Point" in 1957-58; in association with the names of pioneers of aviation grouped in this area, named after Juan de la Cierva (1895-1936), Spanish designer of the autogiro, the first successful rotating-wing aircraft, in 1923 (APC, 1960, p.3; BA chart 3560, 7.iv.1961).
