This is an example of integrating ARGOS satellite-tracking data (in this case, from emperor penguins tagged from Taylor Glacier) with physical environmental data (SST from MODIS, sea ice from SMMR-SSM/I) and other spatial data (bathymetry from GEBCO and Orsi's ocean front positions).
About
This application has been generated in two steps: firstly, the ARGOS data are processed offline in Matlab and the environmental data layers assembled. An image file for each layer in each frame is generated. The application you are looking at is a Flex application that loads those images and shows them in the appropriate sequence.
