Definition

Solid particles and grains of rock material that have been transported and deposited. In the strictest sense a sediment is the solid material which settles after being suspended in a liquid, but the term has been extended to include all detrital material deposited by fluvial, marine, glacial and aeolian agencies in the process of sedimentation.
