Este nombre apareció en una carta chilena de 1962, corresponde al nombre de la mayor de las islas que componen el grupo, en 1945 la Expedición de FIDS al mando del capitán A. Taylor, RCE, la denominó "Eagle" por el nombre de una de las naves, su actual nombre es la traducción al castellano. Grupo de seis islas, situado a la entrada de bahía Duse y hacia el SW de ella, en el canal Príncipe Gustavo, en la parte de éste que separa a la isla Vega de la costa W de la península Tierra de O'Higgins.
