El capitán C.A. Larsen ballenero noruego vio parte de una gran bahía en esta área en 1893. El nombre Larsen fue sugerido por Edwin Swift Balch en 1902. La ensenada fue reconocida y cartografiada por el FIDS en 1947. Ensenada helada de unas 14 millas de largo en una dirección N-S y aproximadamente de unas 8 millas de ancho. Está situada entre los cabos Longing y Sobral en la costa E de la península Tierra de O'Higgins.
