El nombre aparece en una carta de 1829 basada en trabajos de la Expedición Británica del capitán Henry Foster 1828-1831. Probablemente, llamado así por John Pond, director del Observatorio Real de Greenwich en esa época. Monte situado en el lado oriental de la herradura que forma isla Decepción, a 8 cables al E de caleta Péndulo. Con 511 metros de altura, es la cumbre dominante de la isla.
