El nombre fue puesto por la Expedición Antártica Chilena de 1949, por el sobrenombre de uno de los hijos del capitán de corbeta José Duarte Villarroel, comandante del patrullero "Lautaro". Situada al N del bajo Cochecho, frente a la costa occidental de isla Robert. Es una roca sumergida sobre la cual rompe la mar con fuerza con un poco de marejada.
