Descubierto por la Expedición Francesa, que se efectuó entre 1903-1905, al mando del Dr. Jean B. Charcot, denominada así en recuerdo de Julio A. Roca, Presidente de Argentina en los años 1880-1886 y 1898-1904. Grupo de islotes a más o menos 4 millas NW de islas Argentine, en la costa W de la península Tierra de O'Higgins.
