Descubierta en el año 1909, por el Dr. Jean B. Charcot. Recibe el nombre por Lisle C. D. Ryder, segundo Piloto del "Penola", durante la expedición Británica, 1934-1937, de John Rymill. Bahía situada a 13 millas al NNE de cabo Alexandra, la costa de isla Adelaida forma esta ensenada en cuya entrada se alzan las islas Leonie.
