Fue descubierto y denominado por la Expedición Francesa de 1837-1840, al mando de D'Urville. Se encuentra a 6 millas al NW del monte Bransfield, constituye la punta más avanzada hacia el norte de la península Luis Felipe. El cabo está constituido por un acantilado de hielo de unos 50 mts. de altura.
