Origin

This name originates from Germany. It is part of the Germany Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.

Narrative

A group of nunataks and a nunatak ridge 1000 m apart, projecting about 10 to 20 m above the snow surface, 60 km SSE of Tange Promontory, 20 km W of Nye Mountains, Hays Glacier in the NW and Rayner Glacier in the NE, Enderby Land, East Antarctica. Named during the 17th Soviet Antractic Expedition 1971/72 with participation of GDR scientists.

'Mountains of the German-Soviet Friendship'.

A letter (dated 1985-JUN-26) addressed to Alfred-Wegener-Institut providing the name for transfer into the Database of German-language Antarctic place names. Factually checked and approved by Ständiger Ausschuss für geographische Namen (StAGN) (German PCGN) on 1988-OCT-12; finally approved by German National Committee of SCAR on 1989-MAR-28.
