Origin

This name originates from Germany. It is part of the Germany Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.

Narrative

The bay - also erroneously called Vahsel Bay - is formed by the coastline of Prinzregent-Luitpold-Land, Coats Land, and the icefront of Filchnerschelfeis, Weddell Sea; the bay comprises the temporary mooring place 'Vahselbucht' of the expedition vessel 'Deutschland' which at that time was more an inlet than a bay. Discovered during Deutsche Antarktische Expedition 1911/12 under Wilhelm Filchner.
