in Recess Cove, Danco Coast, following air photography by FIDASE and ground surveys by FIDS from Portal Point 1956-59, was named, in association with the names of aviation pioneers grouped in this area, after Salomon August Andrée (1854-97), Swedish engineer, who died on Kvitøya, Svalbard, after an attempt to fly over the North Pole by balloon (APC, 1960, p.2; BA chart 3566, 25.viii.1961).
