off SW Renaud Island, Biscoe Islands, following air photography by FIDASE, 1955-57, and work by an RN Hydrographic Survey Unit, 1957-58, was named after Dr Terence Edward Armstrong (1920-1996), English sea-ice specialist; Reader in Arctic Studies, Cambridge University, 1977-83, and Acting Director, SPRI, 1982-83; author of Sea ice north of the USSR (London, 1958) (APC, 1959a, p.4; BA chart 3573, 26.viii.1960).
