monolith rising c. 50m above sea level off Claude Point, Brabant Island, was discovered by FAE, 1903-05, and named Aiguille de l'Astrolabe after Astrolabe, one of the ships of FAE, 1837-40 (Matha and Rey, 1911, Pl. 3; BA, 1916, p.403).
