NE entrance point of Plata Passage, Danco Coast, was roughly charted by BeAE, 7 February 1898; called Punta Zapato [=shoe point] by AAE, presumably in reference to its shape (Argentina. MM chart 129, 1957); photographed from the air by FIDASE, 1956-57, and surveyed from the ground by FIDS from "Portal Point", 1957-59; in association with the names of pioneers of aviation grouped in this area, named after Daedalus who, with Icarus in Greek mythology (Icarus Point, q.v.), made wings and became the first to fly (APC, 1960, p.3; BA chart 3566, 25.viii.1961).
