rising to 1280m S of Louis-Philippe Plateau, Trinity Peninsula, was surveyed by FIDS from "Hope Bay", 1960-61; in association with the names of pioneers of overland mechanical transport grouped in this area, named after Gottlieb Daimler (1834-1900), German engineer who developed the light-oil, medium-speed internal combustion engine, which made possible the first commercial production of light mechanical transport, 1883-85 (APC, 1964, p.3; BAS 250 sheet SP 21-22/13, 1-DOS 1974).
