between King George Island and Clarence Island, South Shetland Islands, was discovered and its N coast roughly charted by Bransfield in late January or early February 1820 (Bransfield, chart, [1820b]); further charted by Fildes in 1820-21 and named Sea Elephant Island after the sea elephant (Mirounga leonina) observed in numbers there (Files, 1821b, chart [5]); also charted by RAE, 29 January 1821.
