MM, 1957a, p.3); in association with the names of glaciologists grouped in this area, named after Alexius Burkhard Immanuel Friedrich Pfaff (1825-86), German physicist who made pioneer studies of the deformation of glacier ice in Switzerland, 1874-76 (APC, 1960, p.6; BA, 1961, p.190; BAS 250P sheet SQ 19-20/10, 1-DOS 1979).
