rising to 570m at N end of Sobral Peninsula, Nordenskjöld Coast, was surveyed by FIDS from "Hope Bay", 1960-61; in association with the names of pioneer designers of oversnow vehicles grouped in this area, named after the Phoenix Manufacturing Co., Eau Claire, Wisc., which started in 1906-07 to design and build steam "locomotive sleds" for hauling logs over ice and snow, probably the earliest successful vehicles of their type (APC, 1964, p.4; BAS 250 sheet SQ 19-22/1 (Ext.), 1-DOS 1974).
