Narrative

in SE entrance of Antarctic Sound between Andersson Island and Dundee Island, was roughly charted by FAE, 1837-40, on 27 February 1838 and referred to as "íle presumée", while the name IÎle Rosamel was applied collectively to Andersson Island and Jonassen Island (q.v.) after Vice-amiral Claude du Campe, Baron de Rosamel (1774-1848), French Minister of Marine and Colonies, 1836-39, under whose orders the expedition sailed (d'Urville, 1838, map following p.1170). Rosamel Island, following the FAE application (BA chart 1238, 7.ix.1839). Isla Rosamel, following the FAE application (Spain. DH chart 458, 1861). The island was recharted by SwAE in January 1902.
