W entrance point of Lauzanne Cove, Flandres Bay, Danco Coast, was probably sighted by BeAE in February 1898; charted by FAE, 1903-05, in 1904 and named Pointe Sonia after Mme Sonia Bunau-Varilla, a supporter of the expedition (Charcot, 1906b, p.472; Matha and Rey, 1911, Pl. 3). Sonia Point (USHO, 1943, p.135; APC, 1960, p.7; BA chart 3572, 29.xi.1974). Punta Sonia (Argentina. MM chart 106, 1949). Punta Alta [=high point] (Argentina. MM chart Ñ, 1954). The point was photographed from the air by FIDASE, 1956-57.
