off NE Adelaide Island, forming SW entrance point of Buchanan Passage, was photographed from the air by RARE, 1947-48, and by FIDASE, 1956-57, and surveyed from the ground by FIDS from "Detaille Island" in 1958; in association with the names of glaciologists grouped in this area, named after Samuel Steinemann (b.1923), Swiss physicist who, starting in 1953, made laboratory investigations on the flow of single and polycrystalline ice; Professor of Physics, University of Lausanne, from 1968 (APC, 1960, p.7; BA, 1961, p.195; BAS 250P sheet SQ 19-20/10, 1-DOS 1979).
