W-most of the Aitcho Islands (q.v.), English Strait, South Shetland Islands, and the site of a rookery of chinstrap penguins (Pygoscelis antarctica), was charted by an RN Hydrographic Survey Unit from HMS Protector, January-March 1967 (BA chart 1774, 19.vii.1968); so named in acknowledgment of the work of Ldg Mech. Donald N. Tait, RN (b. 1940), "stoker" in the survey motor boat Nimrod (APC, 1974, p.6; BA, 1974, p.165).
