rising to 110m on N side of Fumarole Bay, Port Foster (q.v.), Deception Island, was known to nineteenth-century sealers and charted by Foster in 1829; surveyed by an RN Hydrographic Survey Unit, 1948-49, when a steel framework beacon was constructed on the summit; called Wensley Beacon after Wensleydale, Yorks, a favourite locality of the surveyor-in-charge (BA chart 3202, 23.ix.1949).
