This name originates from Italy. It is part of the Italy Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.

Narrative

Lake (axes 135x100m; depth 2,5m; altitude 86m asl; seasonal ice covering) located 2,7km SSW of historical "snow cave site" at Inexpressible Island. Named by presence of a great rock (Gransasso means "Great Rock") near eastern shore. Surveyed and named by V. Libera during the IV Italian Antarctic Expedition (1988-89).
