This name originates from Italy. It is part of the Italy Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.
Circular lake (axes 150x150 m, max depth 3,9m, altitude 70m asl, seasonal ice covering) located 30km NE of Mt Gerlache. Named after Prof V. Tonolli (1913-1967), Director of Italian Institute of Hydrobiology (CNR). First seen by G. Orombelli during the first Italian Expedition in Antarctica (1986); surveyed and named by V. Libera on 1988.
