A mountain, about 2743m high, forming a distinctive landmark in its region, lying at the west side of the upper reaches of Shackleton Glacier, just south of thie high escarpment fo the Queen Maud Range. Discovered by the Byrd AE, 1928-30, on Byrd's flight to the Queen Maud Range in November 1929. Named by Byrd for Van Lear Black, American financier and contributor to the Byrd AE, 1928-30, 1933-35.
