A heavily crevassed area at the south end of the Mohn Basin lying to the west and south-west of the mountain group consisting of Mts Wisting, Hassel, Bjaaland, and Prestrud in the South Polar Plateau. Discovered and named by Amundsen, in November 1911, on his journey to the South Pole because of the extremely rough sledging conditions encountered here. He called a portion of it the Devil's Ballroom.
