A prominent nunatak in the upper Mackay Glacier, 15km west-southwest of Mount Gran and 5.6km south of Reid Rigde, at the end of a long line of icefalls extending across the glacier. Feature shown on: NZ AntTopo50-MD07
Surveyed by the Northern Survey Party of the New Zealand Trans-Antarctic Expedition, 1956-58, in November 1957, and named by them because it marks the most obvious gateway through the upper icefalls for parties travelling west up the Mackay Glacier.
