A large active glacier about ten miles wide and 16 miles long, located at the head of Prestrud Inlet, flowing westward from the Rockefeller Plateau. Named by US Operation Deep Freeze II for Max Kiel of the US Navy Mobile Construction Bn (Special) who lost his life in a crevasse 18 miles westward from this glacier on 6 March 1956, while attempting to establish a trail to Byrd Station.
