Narrative

A small rocky island on the eastern side of Davis Bay, about 30 m from the continental ice cliffs of Wilkes Coast. Photographed by USN Operation Highjump (1946-47). The first landing was made on the island by an ANARE party on 7 January 1956. Named by USACAN after T. Lewis, gunner on the sloop of war Peacock, one of the ships of the US Exploring Expedition (1838-42) under Wilkes.
