Narrative

A conspicuous rocky point marked by sheer red granite cliffs, lying below Mt Christmas, on the western edge of the Ross Ice Shelf. Discovered in December 1902 by the NAE, 1901-04, and named for Admiral of the Fleet Sir William Henry May, a Lord of the Admiralty and Controller of the Navy, 1901-05. The US Board on Geographical Names refers to this feature as Cape William Henry May, but the maps of both Scott's expeditions show it as Cape May.
