A spectacular isolated nunatak at the head of the Ferrar Glacier, between Mt Feather and Pivot Peak. A cap of pale sandstone, with vertical walls, standing above a horizontal base of black dolerite, strongly suggests a Tibetan Monastery. Named by the Northern Survey Party of the NZTAE, 1958-59, who established a survey station on its summit on 16 January 1958.
