Narrative

The S entrance point to Horseshoe Bay in W Ross Island. Named by the NZGB after Terry Newport, a carpenter in the NZ Antarctic Programme, who perished in the same helicopter crash as Garth Varcoe, near to this location in October 1992. The feature had been unofficially named Newport Point since the crash, but only officially named in 1999.
