An extensive névé of about 250 square miles in area lying between the Commonwealth Range to the west and the Hughes Range to the east. To the north the névé ends in precipitous icefalls into the Canyon Glacier and its tributary glacier, but most of the ice drains southward into the Keltie Glacier. Surveyed and named by the Southern Party of the NZGSAE, 1961-62, for K P Pain, field assistant with the party.
