This name originates from New Zealand. It is part of the New Zealand Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.

An ice-covered island about 1 mile long and 1/2 mile wide, about 5 miles south of Cape Irizar and 1 mile east of Lamplugh Island. The granite cliffs of the island are 90m high and covered with an ice-cap about 22m high. First charted by the BAE, 1907-09. Probaly named for Dr George Thurland Prior, Keeper of the Department of Minerals, British Museum.
