This name originates from New Zealand. It is part of the New Zealand Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.
The first prominent rock cliff on the west side of Hallett Peninsula, to the south of Hallett Station and Seabee Hook. Named by the NZGSAE, 1957-58, for Dr J Shear, US meteorologist, and scientific leader at the station in 1957, the first year of its operation.
