Named by the United States Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) for Donald E Wohlschlag, Professor of Biology, Natural History Museum, Stanford University, who played an important role in outfitting the biology laboratory on the U.S. Naval Ship (USNS) "Eltanin" and the biology laboratory at McMurdo Station, where he worked five summer seasons between 1958-64.
