The north-western island of the Balleny Islands. It is long and narrow, being about 19 milse long and 5 miles wide; rises gently to a height of about 1200m and is entirely snow-covered. There is no definite summit on the island, which is in the form of a plateau. Discovered on 9 February 1839 by Balleny, who named it for G F Young, one of the seven London merchants who joined Charles Enderby in sending out the expedition.
