In association with the names of geologists grouped in this area, named by the UK-APC after Sir John Smith Flett (1869-1947), British geologist who worked on Scottish geology and volcanoes; Director, Geological Survey and Museum of Practical Geology (later British Geological Survey), 1920-35.
