This name originates from United States of America. It is part of the United States Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.
A steep, rocky point at the N tip of Shepard Island, which lies on the seaward edge of the Getz Ice Shelf, Marie Byrd Land. The point, the site of an Adelie penguin rookery, was charted by personnel of the USS Glacier on Feb. 4, 1962. Named by US-ACAN for Lt. (j.g.) David S. Mathewson, USN, then supply officer of the Glacier.
