Penhale, biologist, Program Manager for Polar Biology and Medicine, Office of Polar Programs, NSF, from 1986; co-editor (with C. Susan Weiler) of Ultraviolet Radiation in Antarctica: Measurements and Biological Effects, American Geophysical Union, Washington, D.C., 1994.
