The glacier was photographed from the air by RARE in 1947 and was mapped from the photographs by FIDS in 1960. Named by US-ACAN for Cdr. J.H. Wubbold, USCG, Commanding Officer, USCGC Northwind, USN OpDFrz, 1977.
