Named by US-ACAN (2000) after Terry L. Johnson, environmentalist with Antarctic Support Associates, USAP, from 1990 through the time of naming. (The 1995 U. S. Antarctic gazetteer includes 13 features named Johnson. The given name, Terry is applied in this instance to provide a distinctive toponym.)
