This name originates from Bulgaria. It is part of the Bulgaria Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.
The mountain range occupying the interior of Smith Island in the South Shetland Islands. Extending 30 km in SW-NE direction between Cape James and Cape Smith, and 6.8 km wide. Its summit Mount Foster is a double peak, the higher S height of which (2105 m) was first climbed on January 30, 1996 by a New Zealand team lead by Greg Landreth. Named after Mount Imeon (present day Pamir and Hindu Kush), whose highlands and valleys around Oxus River (Amu Darya) were the ancient Bulgarian homeland described in the 7th Century Armenian geography 'Ashharatsuyts'.
