Narrative

La Expedición Antártica Chilena de 1947 efectuó un completo levantamiento de la bahía Chile y la llamó punta Tte. Bascopé, así figuró en las cartas chilenas hasta 1951, año en que se cambió a punta Bascopé, para evitar el nombre compuesto. El nombre corresponde al apellido del teniente 1º Juan Bascopé Guzmán, meteorólogo de la expedición. En las cartas de los EE.UU. de Norteamérica figura como Ash Point, pero el origen de ese nombre es incierto, aunque se le atribuye a la Investigación Discovery de 1935. Punta que constituye el extremo N del lado SE de la entrada a la bahía Chile, isla Greenwich, islas Shetland del Sur.
