El nombre corresponde al apellido del teniente coronel Héctor Contador López, Ejército de Chile, quien tuvo a su cargo la brigada de reparaciones de la base antártica "Bernardo O'Higgins", durante la Expedición Antártica Chilena de 1966-1967. Cerro de aproximadamente 560 metros de elevación, que se levanta sobre la punta NE de la isla Águila, frente a la península Luis Felipe de la costa E de la península Tierra de O'Higgins.
