El nombre corresponde al apellido del capitán de bandada Ernesto L. Galaz Guzmán, Fuerza Aérea de Chile, relevo de dotación de la Base Gabriel González Videla, quien integró la Expedición Antártica Chilena de 1956. Monte de aproximadamente 1.036 metros de elevación, que se levanta sobre la punta que marca la parte central del fondo del saco de la bahía Beascochea, entre el glaciar Lever y el glaciar Cadman, costa W de la península de Tierra de O'Higgins.
